Islamabad:
Marshal Coas, General Asim Munnir, was honored with the “Field Marshal baton” during a special ceremony held in Aiwan-E-Sadr on Thursday.
The ceremony brought together Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, president of the Pakistani Pakistani Bilawal Bhutto, governors of the four provinces, ministers in chief and diplomats from various countries.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif jointly conferred on the “Marshal’s baton in the field” on Coas with recognition of his strategic leadership and contributions to national defense.
The PM, while addressing the ceremony, said: “Today is a historic and proud day. We recognize the services of our heroes, and today’s event is part of this continuous recognition.”
He added: “Military leadership won a remarkable victory against the enemy. I appreciate the management of the Marshal in the field. Under his command, the military leadership obtained a historic triumph.”
He added that “success was obtained in operation Bunyanum Marsoos under the direction of Marshal.
The federal cabinet had approved Tuesday the promotion of Coas Mnir at the rank of Marshal in the field.
The decision was made at a meeting of the high -level cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, in which the ministers welcomed the success of operation Bunyanum Mursoos, qualifying it as a historic victory which thwarted the Indian aggression and saved national sovereignty.
The Prime Minister praised Coas Mnir for having demonstrated “exceptional military leadership, bravery and strategic command” and in recognition of his gallant demonstration of the fatherland and leadership which ensured the sovereignty of Pakistan, the cabinet approved the recommendation of the PM Shehbaz to promote General Asim.
