The tensions evolved during the NCAA baseball match on Saturday between Samford and Mercer.
Samford’s Voltger, Michael Gupton, struck a two -point circuit to increase the Bulldogs’ advance on the Bears. Gupton seemed to shout something at Mercer Players during his fiery jog around the bases.

Gupton’s words seemed to target at least one player on the baseball diamond as well as in Mercer’s canoe. Gupton finally touched the marble and celebrated with his Samford teammates.
A visibly frustrated short-crew, Bradley Frye, tried to follow Gupton and had to be retained by the referees. Mercer coaches also expressed their frustrations towards the referees.

Mercer players then started to leave the playground in apparent event.
Several Mercer players had to be retained in the canoe.

The South Conference Commissioner Michael Cross was present for the match and was finally seen speaking with the referees.
Gupton and Frye were ejected from the game after a video review. The coaches were also thrown, with the assistant of Samford, Gil Walkes and the launcher coach to Mercer, Tanner Gordon, receiving ejections.

Frye’s mother was also shown at the door after being seen standing and jumping on the canoe for a few moments after learning of her son’s ejection. Other Mercer fans were thrown after entering the canoe roof.
The match was delayed by about 25 minutes.
Samford finally celebrated a 5-1 victory on Saturday. The victory struck Samford’s ticket for the Socon championship match.
