Martyred police officer, three injured in confrontation with terrorists in Bannu

A police officer was killed and three others were injured in an exchange of gunshots involving the police, civilians and terrorists in the Bannu of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said on Thursday.

The wounded include the police constable Mir Zaman, the school teacher Naqeebullah and a civilian, Khafezullah.

They were transferred to the district headquarters hospital for medical treatment.

“The members of the peace committee, as well as the police, patrolled in the region when they were attacked by terrorists around 12:30,” the regional police spokesman for local media told a local media.

The incident took place Tuesday evening in the Landidak region in the jurisdiction of the Huwaid police station. Police said the members of a local peace committee and residents resisted the terrorists who were trying to enter the village.

The martyred officer was identified as Murtaza, which was displayed at the Bakakhel TDP camp. Residents had previously warned the terrorists not to enter the region through the Jirgas community and took up arms to defend themselves when the group tried a foray.

The police said the terrorists had been forced to flee due to the coordinated response of the police and armed residents.

In addition, at least seven people, including police staff, were killed and five others injured in a series of firing incidents across Bannu in the last 24 hours.
