THE Washington Capitals I entered the damage control Thursday after information according to which an email for seasonal ticket holders had been sent informing them that the NHL 2025-2026 season would be the last for the great hockey Alex Ovechkin.
The reports began to circulate on social networks Thursday afternoon that Ovechkin, who will be 40 years old in September, will prepare for his last season in the League.

According to a report of Thehockeywriters.comAn e -mail was sent Thursday who said: “October – The start of the capital hockey and the last season of the NHL Alex Ovechkin.”

Shortly after the start of the report, the Capital Public Relations team published a statement specifying that no “decision” concerning the future of Ovechkin was made and that the e-mail was sent by mistake.
“No decision was made on the future of Alex Ovechkin after 2025-26 In the NHL season. An e-mail was sent by a person from the business sales service who has been wrongly alluding to next year, being the last year of Alex Ovechkin. “”
Questions about the future of Ovechkin followed his career marking record, which he set when he broke the 895 brand from Wayne Gretzky in April. He enters next season in the last year of his contract.

Earlier this month after the capital was eliminated from the Stanley Cup qualifiers by the Hurricanes of Carolina, the Russian hockey star confirmed that he would return at least in the fall to play in what will be his 21st season in the NHL.
“I will use these few months (during the offseason) to rest, enjoy my life, then return to work,” he said. “Me and (coach Pavel Burlachenko are) are going to do our job to prepare for the season and do my best.”

Despite a broken leg last season, Ovechkin returned to score 44 goals and break the Gretzky record.
“I look forward to next year,” he added. “I will try to do my best to play, and my team will help me too … I just want to come back next year and see the team capable of winning the Stanley Cup.”
