Lahore:

President Asif Ali Zardari underlined the need for political unity among the partners of the coalition, suggesting that the government adopts a collective approach in the national interest during its meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called President Asif Ali Zardari in the Governor of Lahore House on Sunday, where discussions were from the country’s dominant political and security situation, to recent commitments with friendly countries, as well as climate change.

The meeting attended by the president of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Minister of the Interior Mohin Naqvi, the governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Senator Saleem Mandviwala.

Participants also examined the results of the Prime Minister recent visits to friendly nations and their importance for foreign relations in Pakistan.

The discussion also mentioned the importance of coordination and cooperation between political allies, stressing the need for unity in the current political landscape.

President Zardari, while stressing the importance of public well-being, urged the government to take practical and impactful measures in the upcoming budget to relieve the ordinary man.

“The government must take measures in the upcoming budget to relieve the ordinary man,” said the president.

He also reiterated the need for unity among the partners of the coalition, declaring: “Political allies must go ahead in the national interest”.

It is relevant to mention that Zardari has been staying in the provincial metropolis since last weekend. Initially, it was revealed that he was only here for the match, after which he would remain a day or two in Lahore before going back.

One day earlier, two sources from different parties revealed that the president had been organized by the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, during which Governor Sardar Saleem Haider was also present. However, there was no official confirmation on each side.

Several other party leaders said they were not aware of last week’s meeting, but observed a slight change in the posture of the PPP to PML-N, noting that “our criticisms against Maryam and his team were not as hard as they were.”

The party initiates hope that the meeting will strengthen the links between the two parts of Punjab, offering their leaders access to the provincial budget.
