Is worried about an alarming figure of 92 deaths due to the drowning recorded across the Punjab in last month, the secretary of emergency services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, called on citizens to ensure security precautions during the visit of the recreational water sites during the Eid holidays.
By examining the performance of the emergency service in all districts in May, he stressed the importance of strictly monitoring all security measures, especially during swimming or other activities in water.
He advised people not to enter the water or get on a boat without wearing life vests and avoiding overload to avoid capacity.
The provincial secretary urged all citizens to ensure security precautions when visiting recreational sites in hot weather.
He also advised people not to enter the water without the presence of rescuers, to wear life jackets during marina navigation and to remain attentive to the capacity of the ship to avoid drowning due to the capsize.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government announced four Eid vacations on Friday to June 9 on Monday.
The data shared at the meeting revealed that 92 people died in 140 drowning incidents reported in Punjab in May.
Up to 436 people died in 39,978 road traffic traffic accidents in the province during the month. On road accidents, 7,384 took place in Lahore, during which 38 people died, followed by 2,671 in Faisalabad, 2,527 in Multan, 2,139 in Gujranwala, 1,491 in Sheikhupura and 1,290 in Bahawalpur. The number of fire emergencies reported in Lahore was 602, Faisalabad 300, Gujranwala 206, Siackot 187, Sheikhupura 184 and Rawalpindi 174.
The secretary said that the emergency service had rescued 211,354 victims during the month.
