The members of the Sindh Assembly unanimously condemned the loss of loading unexpected by the electricity distribution companies K-Electric, Hesco and Sepco. The leaders of PPP, MQM, PTI and Jamaat-E-Islami united in their request for an immediate end to surprise the power outages.
Despite strong calls from the Special Energy Committee to reduce the loss of loading, the electric CEO K-Electric Moonis Alvi continued to defend unexpected power cuts. The committee expressed a strong dissatisfaction with the poor performance of electricity companies and ordered a strict deadline for conformity of ten days.
The members of the Committee asked for how the load discharge calendar had been modified without their approval, in particular after the prior insurance that there would be no load shedding at night. K-Electric, Hesco and Sepco officials did not provide satisfactory answers.
During a meeting held Monday at the Sindh Assembly building and chaired by Fayyaz Butt of PPP, the special committee ordered all the electricity companies to immediately stop night pressure drop and strictly respect an approved calendar. The president of the Sindh Assembly, Owais Qadir Shah, also attended the session.
The other participants were the leaders of PPP Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Asif Musa, Sadia Javed; MQM chief Ali Khursheedi; Muhammad Farooq by Jamaat-E-Islami; and senior officials from K-Electric, Hesco and Sepco. The electric CEO of K Moonis Alvi apologized for having missed the previous meeting.
The frustration of the committee was obvious because the members criticized the prolonged and unpredictable power failures through the Sindh, in particular in Karachi. The meeting was tense before the arrival of the CEO of electricity K, certain members threatening to publish a notice of justification for his absence.
Moonis Alvi was toasted on the legal basis of the excretion of charges. He said it was necessary due to line losses, but the members of the committee asked to know under the right that these measures are authorized. Officials did not provide a clear legal justification.
MPA de Liaquatabad Moaz Mehboob warned that the FIR should be recorded against K electricity officials for illegal charging loss. When Alvi countered by mentioning the electricity flight, Mehboob also expressed his support for the reduction in flight.
The president of the Sindh Assembly, Owais Qadir Shah, stressed that all electricity companies must provide a clear discharge calendar. Muhammad Farooq of Jamaat-E-Islami stressed that the previous agreement prohibited the nocturnal charge loss, wondering how the calendar was modified without the approval of the Committee. Alvi defended the need for discounts during heat waves, but Farooq rejected the complaint, noting that Karachi temperatures had not reached 45 degrees.
The meeting also saw members expressing its frustration concerning the disdainful attitude of the CEO Alvi. Bilqis Mukhtar criticized him for not having taken the concerns seriously, while Sajjad Soomro and Sadia Javed asked him to stop using his mobile phone several times at the meeting. Sadia also demanded apologies from electrical managers for disrespectful remarks made to a MPa during an earlier session, a request that Alvi recognized by apologies in the name of his institution.
Alvi admitted K-Electric’s defect to fight effectively against electricity flight and said that stronger actions were necessary in the affected areas, although the connection of connections remained a challenge.
