- Ballerina: John Wick’s world should not be called a spin-off, says its director
- The last entry in the film series takes place between the third and fourth films John Wick
- He “develops mythology” of the Thriller Action franchise, he adds
Ballerina Director Len Wiseman rejected the claims that the last entry of the film franchise John Wick is a spin-off.
Addressing Techradar before the film’s release, Wiseman argued that it should actually be called a “spin-on”-that is to say a film that puts its own turn to the well-established formula of a film franchise.
Wiseman admits that very few people, if someone, has already heard the “rotation” sentence. Nevertheless, he insists that the film Starring Ana de Armas is “fully connected” to the other entries in the series of films – and not only because Wick appears there.
BallerinaThe first trailer raised the eyebrows on Wick’s inclusion. After all, at the end of John Wick Chapter 4Keanu Reeves’ iconic hitman was – spoiler! – presumed dead. With John Wick 5 At first, however, it is likely that the well -dressed murderer did not take his last breath.
To watch
However, Ballerina takes place between John Wick CHAPTER 3: Parabellum And its suite is why the Reeves de Reeves pistol is, at this stage of the chronology of John Wick, still alive and kick. To find out more about said chronology, read my guide on how to watch John Wick movies in order.
But I am off track. With Ballerina undertake Parabellum And John Wick Chapter 4As well as the participation of Reeves in its history, the last entry of the franchise should be considered the most recent film in the main series. It is for this reason that Wiseman invented the nickname “Spin-on” for one of the new long-awaited films of 2025.
When I ask him if Ballerina Should be labeled as an “intermediary” – another term of the industry for a film which takes place between two other films – Wiseman replied: “Yes, it is. I saw people call it a spin -off, which is really misleading.
“Ballerina events are mainly parallel to John Wick CHAPTER 3: Parabellum. We really build the world of John Wick, so it’s more a “spin-on” than a “spin-off”. I know it’s not a sentence, but it should be! “”
Asked to explain how Ballerina Explore the family film series known as “John Wick Universe”, Wiseman added: “One of the things that attracted me for the first time in this film was the mythology of John Wick and how superimposed it is.
“Here, we are able to dive deeper into this myth and to explore Roma Ruska, which we met in previous films. Before, we saw this group through the eyes of John Wick and its experiences [with them]. Now we manage to go through the layers of their folklore and try to balance this with what was previously established. We had fun with it and I think the public will appreciate it. “”
Ballerina: John Wick’s world Lands in theaters around the world on June 6.
