- AWS launches a European company to supervise its European sovereign cloud
- Led by Kathrin Renz in Germany, only European workers will have access to it
- Its first region in Brandenburg, Germany, will be launched by the end of 2025
Amazon Web Service (AWS) has announced that it will establish a new European organization designed to supervise its European sovereign cloud efforts in order to call on European customers seeking to break links with the United States.
Distinct companies, constituted in Germany, will be “legally obliged to act in the best interest of the European sovereign cloud AWS”, with the vice -president of the AWS Industries Kathrin Renz confirmed as its first director general – a German national.
Its advisory council should also include at least one independent member not affiliated to the Amazon, further strengthening their commitment to European regulations and desires.
European sovereign cloud AWS
Most importantly for European customers, the sovereign option will have no critical dependence on EU’s non -infrastructure, supporting talent, technology and local networks.
In addition, only EU resident AWS employees will have operational control over data centers and technical support.
“The conception of the European sovereign cloud AWS allows it to continue operations indefinitely, even in the event of an interruption of connectivity between the European sovereign cloud AWS and the rest of the world,” confirmed the company.
The network is made up of multiple availability zones with independent power, network, installations and safety capacities.
“Customers tell us that they do not want to choose between solutions limited by features or the full power of the AW, so we have designed the European Sovereign AWS Cloud to meet European digital sovereignty requirements while maintaining the portfolio of services, security, reliability and performance that customers expect from AWS,” commented Renz.
In addition, reflecting its commitment to sovereignty, AWS establishes its framework for sovereign requirements to describe the technical, legal and operational controls developed from customer expectations, the requirements of the regulatory body and pre -existing industrial framework directives.
Under the investment point of 7.8 billion euros, the first European sovereign cloud region of AWS will be launched in Brandenburg, Germany, at the end of 2025.
