Intimacy is the soul of the crypto, and without it, nothing other than we do, really matters.
If you care about financial sovereignty, you need privacy. If you care to coordinate with others to make a social change, or think freely or build a more prosperous company, you need the free exchange of value. Freedom begins with intimacy.
As an engineers and scientists working on ZCASH, we have spent years developing private financial tools that will be anchored in the future of civilization. It is not an exaggeration to say that our descendants will live either in a world that is based on the foundations that we build today, or live in a world that we have neglected.
ZCASH was the first cryptocurrency to send real and strong intimacy with evidence of zero knowledge. The resolution of the problem of confidentiality with cryptography was only the first step: we quickly had to iterate and improve our cryptography so that it is practical to operate on phones, and to invest greatly in research that allowed the scale. Today, our innovations are at the heart of many decentralized protocols.
But while the way to follow for the scale of private payments on the chain is now simple, no project has taken up the fundamental challenge of the scale of private wallets at the same time.
Most cryptocurrency users will use Wallet software that is based on a remote server to send and receive payments. This helps to solve scaling problems by pushing the bandwidth and computer costs far from user devices, but is made at the cost of the user’s requirement to give up their confidentiality to the remote services.
To make our monetary project preserving confidentiality a reality, we need a user experience which is just as practical as that which has no confidentiality.
The simplest solution is to use exotic cryptography to allow remote servers to help our local portfolio software without revealing any private information. We know that this is theoretically possible, but until recently, it seemed to be impractical on a large scale – at least a decade of new science, at least we have thought.
Enter the Tachyon project. With existing cryptography and some intelligent protocol adjustments, it is perfectly practical for ZCASH portfolio software to synchronize with a very active blockchain full of transactions by outsourcing the expensive parts to non -reliable third -party servers. The servers do not learn anything on your wallet and cannot even say what chain transactions correspond to their users.
Admittedly, the cryptography necessary to make this possible and evolving is still not simple. Fortunately, ZCASH has a long period of construction and shipping of this type of exactly advanced cryptography. We have already prepared the field for this in some of our recent upgrades, and with Project Tachyon, we plan to progress quickly in deployment of the remaining changes in the next year.
I am delighted that we have such enthusiasm and such alignment in the ZCASH community to make it a reality. But I am also relieved that we can meet the moment and actually build highly scalable and unstoppable digital money. We do not have time to expect more research or scientific progress. Fortunately, with Tachyon, we can build and deliver today.
