- MacOS 16 (or MacOS 26) could delete the management of certain Mac Intel

My faithful MacBook Pro 2018 served me well over the years, dealing with thousands of photos and more without complaining – but the latest rumors of MacOS 16 suggest that its days are, like most Mac supplied by Intel, very numbered.
WWDC 2025 is now a few days old and, according to an Apple Insider report, MacOS 16 – or MacOS 26 Tahoe, because it seems that it seems to be named – will abandon the management of many Intel Mac models, including the mine (Sniff).
Apple Insider says that “people familiar with the question” told him that only the Mac listed below could execute MacOS 16. Notable by their absence, the 2018 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air at Intel 2018, the 2017 IMAC Pro, and Mac Mini 2018, which currently support the current macOS.

There are two other things to note on this list. The first is that, if it is actually exact when Apple announces MacOS 26 on June 9, it will not yet mark a significant end for all Macs supplied by Intel.
The 2019 MacBook Pro, the 2019 IMAC 5K and the 2019 Mac Pro would all continue until 2026. Next year, MacOS 27 could probably become the first office operating system to exclusively support Mac at Apple Silicon, which would be a great moment.
Second, these four macs fed by Intel which are apparently on the blocking for macos 26 would not necessarily be obsolete. Apple generally continues to provide two more years of updates only on security for machines to this position, so I would not necessarily have to be given goodbye to my 2018 MacBook Pro.
And yet, MacOS 26 will probably be the excuse that I have sought to do exactly that …
My next MacBook
Moving to a MacBook Apple Silicon has been on my list of wishes for a few years now, but buying one is not exactly a challenge of $ 20. However, if Apple announces on June 9 that my 2018 MacBook Pro is not invited to Tahoe’s party, it will probably be the boost I need to make the jump – the other being that my MacBook now shows a lot of age.
There are all the usual signs of the seven -year laptop, as needed to be constantly connected to a charger and the over -off -center fan at the slightest suspicion of something more trying than three chrome tabs. And yes, he also has the very clever key bar, which I joined despite the fact that it is largely useless.
But it’s really a photo and video editing where my MacBook Pro shows its years in advance. The noise reduction fueled by Adobe Lightroom, for example, is very impressive, but applying it on a photo can take several minutes and makes the base of my laptop warm enough to prepare a steak dinner.
The question for me will probably be to get a 13-inch M4 macbook air or wait for the M5 MacBook Pro, which should land later this year alongside the M5 fleas (maybe in “The Fall” of 2025, according to Mark Gurman de Bloomberg).
With the first seated at the top of our best portable computers guide (and the best MacBook and MACS list) and probably offering everything I need (liquid retina display with P3 color range, Apple M4 Puce Apple M4 and £ all day), I lean towards this – in particular because it starts at a fairly reasonable $ 999 / £ 999. Which will double in a way when I add more RAM and storage.
There are also rumors that the MacBook Pro M5 of this year could be a slightly disappointing upgrade. The real fireworks have probably come with a redesigned MacBook Pro M6 which was plunged to land in 2026 with an OLED display, according to rumors at least.
So, even if my MacBook Pro Tired 2018 is not yet completely obsolete, the transition to a Macbook fueled by M4 would probably look like a difference in night and day – and these are now quite rare.
