Islamabad:

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) published two distinct notifications on Thursday, reducing the power rate of RS 2.99 per unit for Karachi consumers, while increasing the rate of 0.93 of Rs per unit for the rest of the country.

The tariff changes were made due to the fuel adjustment for the month of March in the event of Karachi and for the month of April for other parts of the country. In all cases, the new changes would be reflected in electricity bills of the current month.

According to a notification concerning the price of the K-electrical, the authority “decided to authorize a negative FCA of RS2.9898 / kWh (negative of 4.045 billion rupees) for March 2025, to be transmitted to consumers the invoicing month of June 2025”.

The NEPRA said that the negative FCA would apply to “all consumer categories with the exception of living line consumers, protected domestic consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVC) and prepaid electricity consumers of all categories that have opted for the prepaid rate”.

He said KE would reflect the adjustment of fuel charges with regard to March during the June invoicing month. “The adjustment would be displayed separately in consumer bills on the basis of the units invoiced to consumers in the respective month to which the adjustment relates,” he added.

According to a separate notification, the authority “examined and evaluated a national uniform increase in RS0.9306 / kWh in the applicable rate for nightclubs [Distribution Companies] Due to variations in fuel costs for April “.

The notification has added that the FCA should apply to all categories of consumers, with the exception of consumers of the lifeline, protected consumers, EVCs and prepaid electricity consumers of all the categories that have opted for prepaid prices.
