It has been almost two weeks since Atlanta Dream striker Brittney Griner, left a WNBA match against Indiana fever, then was seen on the camera shouting something that was interpreted several ways. Some people believe, depending on the reading of her lips, whom she said “F — ING girl white”, while others believe that she said “F — ING Whack Call”. Although nobody is sure what she said, there is an easy way to discover it: ask Griner.
However, no one did this. Outkick contacted the WNBA and the Griner management team on several occasions, but has not received a single answer. However, Griner has participated in several games since the incident, which means that the media had a lot of access to simply ask the question. However, not a single “journalist”.

Do you want to know why? Because there is no “journalist” or “journalist” of the WNBA. Of course, there are people who have such titles in their social media bios or on their LinkedIn pages. But they don’t tell the truth. The media members covering the WNBA do not work with journalistic integrity – they act rather as public relations professionals whose objective is not to report the facts, but simply to promote the League. Why is this the case? Because WNBA wants this way.
Outkick asked for a media diploma for Atlanta’s dream match in Los Angeles against the Sparks on May 27. The Sparks refused our request. Outkick asked for a media diploma for Atlanta’s dream match in Connecticut against the sun on Friday evening. The sun has denied our request.
Here is the reason provided, by e-mail, by the sun: “Unfortunately, we cannot respond to your request for media identification for Connecticut Sun vs Atlanta Dream on Friday, June 6. Because of very Limited space, priority is given to those associated with points of sale that have always covered the organization for previous seasons. “”

CT Sun offers a pathetic excuse to refuse information to identify the Outkick media
Really? There is not enough space for another media member for a regular season match between 1-6 Connecticut Sun and Atlanta’s dream? Interesting. Outkick asked the team why she had refused our request for references, if she refused other identification information and if there is an edict of the WNBA to prevent us from covering the games. The sun did not answer our questions.
The sun granted several media skills titles to Outkick last year, including an eliminatory match that featured Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark, it is unlikely that their excuse is anywhere near the truth. No, the most likely reason is that the WNBA does not want to exceed its games. For what? Because we refuse to act as a public relations company representing the League and want to ask real questions. You know, reports. But the WNBA does not want that.
This is why no “journalist” or “journalist” asked Brittney Griner what she said on May 23. They want to continue to obtain media references. The league sent the message loudly and clear: cover the WNBA how we want you to cover it, or you will not be invited.

What hides the WNBA?
Companies, organizations and governments that have nothing to hide from welcome journalists. Why wouldn’t they do it? Transparency strengthens confidence. And if there is nothing to hide, there is no reason not to be transparent. Maybe the WNBA does not hide anything. But denying access to the media to a large press organization raises doubts if it is entirely transparent.
Take a look at an example of last season. Christine Brennan, one of the most progressive liberals in the sports media, was criticized for having simply asked Dijonai Carrington to propose Caitlin Clark in the eyes. It was a perfectly reasonable question, and which had to be asked. However, the Association of WNBA players has published a statement asking the League to revoke the Brennan media skills titles. Cover us as we want, or you don’t come to our birthday party!
But just because the WNBA will not let us enter its games that we are going to stop asking. And we are certainly not going to abandon our journalistic tasks simply because all the other “journalists” who cover the league are ready to do so.
