The worst nightmares of Arizona Diamondbacks came on Friday.
The team announced on Friday that after leaving the start of Sunday by what they originally called the inflammation of the elbow, their AS at Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Burnes is in its first season of a $ 210 million contract over six years – it is the richest contract ever given by the Diamondbacks, and it was the second most given money to a launcher during the offseason, following only $ 218 million in Max Fried over eight years.

It is also the fourth largest number of money never given to a launcher, behind the $ 325 million in Yoshinobu Yamamoto over 12 years that he obtained before last season, and the $ 324 million contract, Gerrit Cole (also recovering from Tommy John) signed after 2019.
Arizona led 3-0 at the top of the fifth round when Burnes authorized one simple by CJ Abrams with two withdrawals. The right -hander then made a gesture towards the canoe with his glove and shouted in frustration.
Burnes granted a race and four strokes in 4 2/3 sleeves, with a step and six sticks to the stick. He will finish his season with a 3-2 file and an MPM of 2.66 in 11 departures this season.

The former NFL star, Taylor Lewan, has the “worse day of my athletic life” with a disastrous first launch
Burnes has become one of the best launchers in the game, having finished in the top-eight of Cy Young Award voting every year since 2020. He won the prize in 2021 after leading the majors with an MPM of 2.43 and 12.6 k / 9.
Since it has become a full -time starter in 2020, the 2.86 Burnes era has been the lowest second in baseball among the starters with at least 500 lanches launched, behind only 2.70 Fried.
Surgery could probably leave Burnes on the shelf until 2027.
The 30 -year -old has been very lasting in recent years. He made at least 28 departures each season since he won the Cy Young Award.

Burnes spent his first six seasons with the Brewers of Milwaukee before being exchanged at the Baltimore Orioles, where he only remained for the 2024 season.
