Severe heat wave expected during Eid

Islamabad:

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a waves of severe heat in most regions of the country during the next Eidul Azha vacation and the following week.

According to the Met Office, a high pressure system should develop in the country on June 07, which will seize most of the regions from June 08, considerably increasing the temperatures of the day.

Diurnal temperatures should increase from 5 to 7 ° C above normal in the upper half of the country, including the center and top of the Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from June 7 to 12.

In the southern half, covering the upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab and certain parts of Balutchistan, temperatures should remain 4-6c above normal during the same period.

Dust storms and burst winds are also provided on the plains due to excessive surface heating.

The Met Office has urged the general public, in particular children, the elderly and women, to avoid prolonged exposure in the sun and to remain well hydrated.

Citizens are advised to take all precautionary measures to prevent heat -related diseases.

The rise in temperatures in northern areas could speed up the mealing rate of snow, potentially affecting water flow rates in rivers. The authorities have urged the judicious use of water and asked farmers to plan their harvesting activities in accordance with forecasts.

All the departments concerned were invited to remain vigilant and take the necessary measures to mitigate the risks during this violent meteorological spell.
