At least five firefighters were injured on Sunday when he was fighting a fire that torn several factories in the Landhi export processing area in Karachi, emergency officials said.
According to Rescue 1122, the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning in one of the factories and quickly spread to three adjacent units due to the presence of flammable materials such as chemicals and textiles.
Rescue officials confirmed that the injured firefighters, all the staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), were transported to the hospital to be treated there. One of them remains in critical condition after a section of the burning structure collapsed during the effort to fight fire.
The chief of the rescue department told the media that the shortages of smoke and dense water led to efforts. He added that the affected buildings were declared structurally dangerous after the fire.
The authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but have cited the storage of chemicals and tissues as a contributing factors for rapid spread. The authorities continue to assess the damage and study the origins of the fire.
