Apple’s Big WWDC event should start later in the day (see our live blog WWDC 2025 for all the latest rumors), which means you may be wondering if Apple is likely to start new equipment. Well, a deemed source has closed this idea, but that does not mean that we will not have new Apple devices anytime soon – in fact, the new Airtag 2 update could be fast approaching.
This idea comes from Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, who has solid experience for leaks and apple rumors. In his last power on the newsletter, Gurman says that the Airtag 2 is “almost ready, having been prepared for the launch in recent months”, suggesting that we will not have long wait for us to see it.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to include the possibility that the Airtag 2 launches in WWDC. In the newsletter’s questions and answers section, Gurman posted the question “will Apple announce new equipment at WWDC?” His answer is that “Apple has no ready to be released equipment”, adding that “it does not make much sense” to publish a new AirTag in WWDC.
Indeed, Apple’s event is generally reserved for software updates (such as iOS 26 and macOS 26) and new categories of equipment, such as The Vision Pro. Since the Airtag does not correspond to any of these descriptions, this seems to be an unlikely inclusion in WWDC. However, with Gurman confident that he is almost finished, we will only have too long to wait until he is out of the door.
Airtag 2 characteristics
With Apple Airtag 2, apparently almost here, it is worth summarizing its rumor features. Currently, Airtag can be used to keep track of your important devices, with Apple Find My App used to follow each Airtag from your iPhone.
According to the rumor mill, there are three main modifications to Airtag 2.. The first is the inclusion of the Ultra Large chip of Apple, which allows three times the tracking range compared to the existing Airtag.
In addition to that, we were able to see the integration with the pro vision, plus a more impregnated speaker. This latest feature could help prevent AirTags used for harassment – if its speaker can be falsified and deactivated, it is easier for harasslers to hide an air aerat and use it to follow someone. With an unexpected design, it made much more difficult.
The only thing we do not expect for Airtag 2 is a new appearance, because Apple should stick to the small circular design that it has been used since the arrival of the first Airtag. However, with some new features and an upcoming release date, it could always be an interesting upgrade if you thought of investing in one or two Airtag.
