- Retro Workstation for Mac Mini M4 looks like a Mac of the past, but these are modern ports
- The helmet -shaped quay is a nostalgic candy, but the price invites a real meticulous examination
- It’s cute, it’s eccentric, but it may be more a gadget than work stations for power users
A new reception station has emerged for the retro mac mini M4 Apple mixture design with modern features.
Wokyis unveiled the retro workstation for Mac Mini M4, now available in pre-order on the prerequisite of the crowdfunding platform.
At first glance, it is difficult not to be captivated by its figure similar to a helmet, clearly inspired by the original Macintosh. But as with many products that are strongly negotiated on nostalgia, questions about the utility and the value of the real world are inevitably.
A return factor with modern ambitions
The quay imitates the shape of the original Macintosh, with a matt box and a 5 -inch (1280 x 720) LCD HD screen where the vintage monitor would have been.
He accepts the Mac Mini M4 or M4 PRO by sitting on the device, essentially transforming Apple’s compact computer into a retro style workstation.
Measuring 145 x 131 x 154.3 mm and weighing 750 g, it is compact, but its additional height may not please those which aimed at a minimalist configuration.
Functionally, the unit aims to pay more than a simple visual tribute. Wokyis promotes it as a “13 in 1 workstation”, describing it as “a versatile center for daily tasks, content creation and storage expansion”.
The device includes an SSD M.2 NVME location supported up to 8 TB, as well as a 3.2 Gen 2 USB port offering transfer speeds up to 10 Gbit / s. It also has USB-C connectivity, SD 4.0 and microSD locations (compatible UHS-II), HDMI input and even a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The inclusion of the LCD screen could lift eyebrows. Although technically functional, its limited resolution and its lack of tactile contacts suggest that it is more decorative than Essents.
Likewise, although the unit understands ventilation, the concept of enclosing a Mac Mini, which has already integrated thermal management, within another structure could prove to be counterproductive.
The retro workstation is at a price of $ 199, or $ 99 for a slower version limited to 10 Gbit / s.
That said, it is not clear if the performance justifies the cost, in particular compared to the best USB hubs, many of which offer similar speeds and availability of ports without borrowing their aesthetics from 1984.
