The temple of the national baseball Chipper Jones had it with a private referee after a recent match between the Cubs of Chicago and the Tigers de Detroit.
Jones, who was very active on X recently concerning baseball, took the time to avoid the referee of the MLB Doug Eddings during the 6-1 victory of the Cubs on Saturday.
During the match, several calls were missed by the arbitration crew, including Eddings behind marble. The locations that should have been called bullets were rather hobby calls by Eddings, and Jones thought that the referee’s performance was one of the worst he saw.

In fact, Jones thinks that education is among the worst game today.
“Not only one of the worst referees of the League to take place for 2 decades … but still one of the most conflicting toxic combinations.” Jones wrote on X.

Apart from the shot calls, Eddings also never asked for help when Kyle Tucker’s call for a strike during her at-bat after what seemed to be a completely verified swing.
Jones, however, knows Eddings given his time with the Braves of Atlanta from 1993 to 2012. Eddings began working in MLB in the late 1990s, and he worked 14 series in playoffs, including two World Series.

Jones did not specify his own experiences with Eddings, but they did not seem too positive.
The X @UmpiresCorecards account published the results of the Cubs-Tigers game Eddings, where its overall precision was 92%, and it had an 80% precision called Strike with eight of its 40 strikes called “True Balls”.
The referee in the MLB has been a subject for a long time, in particular given the technological progress that has been made in sports elsewhere.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said the League will offer an automated ball challenge system for use in 2026. It was tested during spring training, and it seems that the comments are positive.
The launchers and the strikers were able to type on their heads to challenge the ball call made by the marble referee. If the rule takes place, each team is expected to receive two challenges that they can use during the game, which makes it when using a part of its strategy.

Although this is a massive change in modern play, the human element of the referees will always apply, and Jones clearly wants to see Eddings better to go ahead.
