- Surfshark unveiled “a technology first of the industry” for greater stability in the VPN connection
- Surfshark Everlink works in the background to recover the abandoned VPN connections
- The supplier also promises to reduce the risk of exposure to IP addresses
Surfshark has just unveiled a patented “first” industry “technology designed to minimize the impact of lost VPN connections – but do not call it a Kill VPN switch.
Surfshark Everlink is an “self-careful infrastructure”, explains the supplier to Techradar, which operates in the background to recover the deleted VPN connections while reducing the risk of exposure to the IP address. The new technology is now available by default on the Wireguard protocol on all platforms.
“We wanted to improve this industry standard and get it to the higher level – instead of killing connection, we want users to remain in complete connected and private,” said technology director at Surfshark, Donatas Budvytis.
Surfhark Everlink: more privacy and convenience
Already one of the best VPN suppliers on the market, according to Techradar tests, Surfshark is now promising to provide even more stable and secure performance. Surfshark Everlink is indeed a technology designed to improve what the supplier considers the most critical VPN quality metric – the stability of the connection.
“While other shiny measures, such as the number of servers, may seem important, the stability of the connection is something that really makes the difference for the user experience,” explains Budvytis.
In simple terms, Everlink acts as an additional safety layer to help recover lost VPN connections.
This means that whenever you connect to your Surfshark VPN service, you will also connect to the Everlink infrastructure. The tool promises to relaunch your connections when they fall by reconfiguring the VPN tunnel without needing to disconnect and reconnect from the virtual private network (VPN).
“If the VPN is a tunnel that secures your traffic, imagine the Surfshark Everlink like another that secures this VPN tunnel. If a connection breaks down, you have automatically passed to another, so you remain connected and secure,” said Budvytis.
This ability to self-control lost VPN connections can also ensure stable performance even when the supplier undergoes a certain network maintenance. Everlink will simply transport all the traffic to the nearest available server without any interruption of your experience.
Surfing in complete safety has become more fluid! We have launched Everlink – a new feature that maintains your stable VPN connection and your safe data, even when something is wrong. Find out how it works (and why it’s important) in our blog! https://t.co/qk8tixnohdJune 10, 2025
In addition to greater stability in the VPN connection, Surfshark Everlink also promises to increase the level of security and privacy.
As Budvytis explains, an unstable VPN connection is not only discomfort, but can also lead to an exposure to the IP address, leaving traceable and vulnerable users.
He said: “For journalists, activists, denunciators and anyone who values online privacy, this can be a significant risk.”
However, all the most private and secure VPN services already have a functionality to minimize the risk of IP exposure – a Kill VPN switch. This feature, as its name suggests, kills Internet access from your device each time your connection drops.
However, Everlink seeks to prevent leaks while ensuring that users are safely connected. Speaking to Techradar, Budvytis explains that when the VPN Server connection falls, the application directly sends a request to the Everlink server for VPN reconfiguration information. Once this information has been received, it is used to reconfigure the VPN connection without the need to disconnect and reconnect the VPN.
“The main advantage of this against the killing switch is that all of this occurs transparently and can keep your connection infinitely,” said Budvytis. “Users can always choose to use the Kill Switch function, but we wanted to offer something in addition to that.”
Surfshark Everlink has been built on patented technology (US11190491B1) and is now available by default on the Wireguard protocol on all platforms, including iOS, MacOS, Windows, Android and Linux VPN applications.
