Rory McILroy had a forgetful opening tour at the US Open. The title champion of the Masters ended Thursday in Oakmont at 4 verses peer.
While the disappointing day was somewhat out of the ordinary of the pro golfer, he continued his dodge model for media members. The Northern Irishman did not speak to the media assembled since he put the coveted green jacket in April in Augusta.

“I would like to start this press conference with a question myself,” McILroy told Augusta National. “What are we going to talk about next year?”
But after not having spoken to journalists from the PGA championship last month, McILroy chose not to comment on the media after the first round in Oakmont. Instead, he bypassed journalists and spectators and entered the Oakmont clubhouse.

Golfers are not contractually forced to speak with the media. Other major professional sports leagues such as the NFL and the NBA demand that their players speak with the press.

Once the US Open ended this weekend, McILroy should participate in the Ryder Cup. Since he won in Augusta, McILroy has finished equally in the 12th place in Zurich Classic and equally in the 7th row in Truist. His PGA championship performance has also produced a disappointing finish.
