The Benazir income support program (BISP) should deploy a retail payment model from Monday, replacing its traditional campsite disbursement system to protect the beneficiaries of the severe heat wave, reported the PTV of state television.

The new system aims to provide safer, more worthy and accessible cash transfers, especially for vulnerable groups in high temperature regions.

As part of the preparations in the field, the additional secretary of BISP, Dr. Tahir Noor, visited the Khanewal district to review the preparation of retail and coordinate with the district teams and the partner banks.

“The retail model is introduced to provide beneficiaries with an improved experience thanks to practical access points, a biometric verification and a more transparent process which includes printed receipts,” said Dr. Noor.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure that cash disburse is managed by respect, efficiency and transparency. He also ordered partner banks to ensure that all retail points of sale are fully operational, with qualified personnel, biometric verification systems, coherent internet connectivity and clear signaling to help recipients.

Dr. Noor asked BISP staff in the field to intensify communication efforts so that the beneficiaries are well informed of the new payment process before deployment.

Earlier this week, he visited Multan and Bahawalpur as part of a wider surveillance tour of southern Punjab. There, he held meetings with BISP managers and financial partners to strengthen coordination before the launch of the system. “All stakeholders, including BISP staff, banks and local authorities, must focus on the supply of complete payments with dignity and ease,” he said.

As part of the new model, beneficiaries are advised to visit only their points of sale designated with their original CNIC to collect the total amount of the quarter of the quarter 4, as well as printed receipts.

All problems or complaints can be reported in the local offices of Bisp Tehsil or via the program line of the program on 0800-26477.

This decision marks a major step in the change of BISP to the provision of social services focused on citizens and transparent, aimed at improving access and dignity for the most vulnerable communities in Pakistan.
