While Microsoft’s official end of life is getting closer and closer (October 14, 2025 for those of you who do not already know!), Laters must soon migrate to Windows 11.
Well, we say traples – but our exclusive statistics show more than half (53%) of Windows users still use the old software, potentially leaving them at risk of cyberattacks and other problems at the end of the support.
Our future survey of 1,027 users revealed that only 43% say they have upgraded – so what causes the delay?
Outlook Optimists
Well, quite simply – our research has revealed that it could be partly because many users simply do not know that they need to upgrade.
The majority of people (55%) know “exactly what version” they are sure, but that leaves 23% which are “fairly safe”, 10% which “could make an enlightened supposition”, and an additional 12% which are not sure at all.
(We are also almost sure that our Techradar Pro audience is obviously quite informed, so the real percentage of those who are not sure is probably much higher …)
Most people interviewed (61%) said they have two or more devices in their home, and 53% say that all their PC / laptops meet the requirements for Windows 11 upgrades – leaving 28% of respondents below requirements in a certain way.
The survey, however, found a little uncertainty, 14% not knowing the requirements of the Windows 11 system, and an additional 4% that does not know their needs in devices. This is where optimism comes into play.
For those who do not know, RAM’s requirement for Windows 11 is 4 GB – and a little more than half (53%) of the people requested did not know how many RAMs had their device, but 40% said they were sure – although it was not entirely the whole image.
We asked these 40% of the amount of RAM they had, and about 1 in 4 respondents gave us an inconceivable response – or far too high, or far too weak.
Most were ridiculously optimistic, like 1 TB, whose industrial configurations would be jealous, so it is really not clear how ready or capable of upgrading.
Although the adoption of Windows 11 can finally be increasing, there are still many users to bring the change. Microsoft always urges users to update, because the company has pushed endless IA features in desktop computers and laptops around the world to try to attract users to change.
