In April, the National Institute of Pakistan Health (NIH) published public health opinions concerning the risks of crimean-congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) and the growing dangers of thermal waves and sun, highlighting the growing challenges linked to the climate in the country.

The opinion urged health establishments and authorities to implement timely and appropriate measures to prevent disease epidemics during the summer months.

The CCHF, a potentially fatal viral disease caused by nairovirus, has been mainly transmitted to humans by tick stings, in particular from infected cattle such as goats, sheep and rabbits.

The virus could also spread by direct contact with the blood or tissue of infected animals, especially during or after slaughter.

Human human transmission was possible, especially in a clinical or domestic environment. According to NIH data, Pakistan reported 61 CCHF cases in 2024.

The opinion recommended to wear light -colored clothing to make ticks more visible and advised citizens to avoid areas with heavy tick infestations. He also encouraged the safe removal of all visible ticks of the skin or clothing.
