- Polar launches a group without screen, confirmed in a recent press release
- It is a portable set without distraction to be launched on September 3
- Very few details are available, but it will certainly be without subscription
I first learned Polar when looking for alternatives to the best Garmin watches, but Polar as a business has been around for a long time: Polar Electro has in fact developed the first wireless heart rate instructor in the world, filing the patent in 1980.
Although the company may have slipped behind some of its competitors in the popularity challenges of the smartwatch since then, Polar has been making solid and reliable devices that are regularly ranked on our best running watches and the best lists of heart rate monitors.
Now, however, Polar moves into a new category: eat Whoop’s lunch by publishing a screen without screen.
However, what excites me is not only a new challenger in the portable space without screen; It is the fact that it is an alternative which is completely without subscription.
I have not yet published my criticism for Whoop MG, the last high -end laptop to be published by Whoop, but to cut a long history: there is a lot to love, in particular detailed analysis. Although it is not ideal for runners, it is probably the most useful laptop for hybrid athletes and gym rabbits that I have tested for a very long time, thanks to its Oura style marking system, its training manufacturer and advanced recovery tools.
However, it is not perfect: the clasp system often separates during the removal of the strip, and the subscription cost is very steep: the Whoop MG arrives at £ 349 / $ 359 / at $ 629 per year, With the cheapest level at £ 169 / $ 199 $ 299 in a year. For this cost, you get the device with an annual subscription to the Whoop application.
Polar has a premium subscription level in its application, but it is specifically for its fitness program functionality, an adaptive training plan generation tool. The basic analyzes collected by polar devices are free, which makes its devices a fairly good value for money: once a device has been purchased, it can be used without spending more money.
I am really enthusiastic about the prospect of a budgetary alternative without the expensive annual subscription. Polar racing watches, such as the Polar X2 Pro grain, and heart rate monitors, such as the Polar H10, are generally very well revised, which augurs well for the laptop.
Although a price has not been published for the group without screen – we do not even know its name – we have a launch date for this: September 3, as mentioned in a polar press release.
The version stipulates that: “The next polar laptop will not only be the brand’s first wrist -free wrist, but it will also be an alternative without subscription to other health groups and fitness trackers on the market.
“By eliminating the need for a screen, this new category of laptops captures precise information and data in the background without entering the daily life of users, based perfectly in their routines during their day.
“Users can then check their statistics and progress whenever it suits them, stay connected to their sleep, their activity, their health and their fitness – without them demanding their attention.”
It certainly looks a lot like a cheaper whoop, but we will surely know closer to the launch date. Expect a detailed comparison when it falls, as well as my full exam by Whoop MG.
