27 injured as failure of the track derail two trains

Khanewal:

At least 27 passengers were injured when two trains – Awam Express and Musa Pak Express – met a track fault while operating between Khanewal and Mian Channu.

According to the commuters, most of the injured suffered injuries to the arms and fingers.

The 1122 rescue teams provided immediate first aid to the victims when they arrived at Khanewal station.

Although the precise cause of the incident remains undetermined, passengers said that people sitting near the doors and windows were the most affected by the impact.

According to sources, some unidentified people have tried to steal a signal scale installed along the railroad. Although they failed to detach it completely, the scale was ill -aligned, considered the likely cause of the accident.

Pakistan Railways has since launched an official investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and assess the security laps.

Pakistan railways recorded a total of 45 incidents related to the train in the first six months of 2025, concerning the concerns about the persistent security and infrastructure challenges through the national rail network.
