- Meta and Oakley officially make smart glasses
- They are based on the design of Oakley HSTN glasses
- Launch later this summer, they will start at $ 399 / £ 399
It’s official. After a teaser earlier this week, Oakley and Meta made smart glasses, and as the owner of the Ray-Ban Meta intelligent specifications of almost two years, I am green.
Later this summer, six pairs of intelligent Oakley specifications will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland and several other European countries, from $ 399 / £ 399 (we are still waiting for the details of Australian pricing).
Oakley Meta HSTN in limited edition (with gold accents and PRIZM 24K polarized objectives) will be available pre -order earlier – July 11 – for $ 499 / £ 499 (once again, we are waiting for Australian prices).
Why am I jealous? Well, to start, these intelligent glasses are defined to boast of some important hardware and software upgrades on my shelves.
The first is an upgrade of the camera. The Ray-Bans have an integrated 12MP Vivaneau which can capture the Full HD video (Resolution 1440×1920) at 30 frames per second. Meta promises that these Oakley specifications will record an ultra HD video (3K), which may be possible in the best action cameras for people who want to record their sports stunts and look good.
Second, they will be able to record longer with an increased battery life. My meta-rays have a four-hour battery life for “standard use”. They can play music, Meta Ai can answer the strange question, and they should last almost so long; As soon as you start capturing videos, their battery will flow much faster
With the housing by recharging them, the shelves can obtain up to 36 hours of total use.
Meta doubles the integrated battery of the glasses with its oakleys, promising that they will last eight hours with standard use and 19 hours if they are on standby. Meta adds that you can recharge them at 50% in just 20 minutes with their file, and said that the load file contains up to 48 hours of load.
Finally, Meta’s IA will always be able to answer various questions for you and use the camera for the context of your questions, as we have seen in Smart Ray-Ban glasses, but he will also get new knowledge related to sport.
Golfers can ask questions about wind speed, while surfers can check the surfing conditions, and you can also ask glasses possible to improve your sports technique.
As with all these promises, we want to test the meta hstn oakley for ourselves to see if they are up to the media threw, but a way of seeing that they are excellent are on the side of the design.
Damn, these things are magnificent.
Interestingly, the choice of design of Oakley’s specifications is a major detail that the leaks were wrong. Instead of its sphaera visor style shades, these are the HSTN glasses of Oakley (I am told that it is pronounced how Stuh).
These glasses resemble more angular Wayfarers Ray -Ban – you know, one of the conceptions of existing intelligent glasses of Meta – but they have a serious design upgrade for athletes that you will not find on Meta’s non -Oakley specifications: Oakley Prizm lenses.
Without becoming too technical, the Prizm objectives are designed to give an increased contrast to what you can see. There are different models for snow sports, bikes and other sports (as well as daily use), but everyone is designed to highlight the key details that could be relevant to the carrier, such as contours in different snowgrounds, or transitions in the types of trails and possible road risks.
If the PRIZM objectives sound as an exaggeration, you can also get a pair with transition lenses or with completely clear objectives.
I exchanged my rays of rays always shaded for a pair with transition lenses, and the difference is austere. Because they are clear in darker environments shaded in brighter weather, I found so much easier to use the pair of transition lens as a daily intelligent glasses. Previously, I could not use my shaded pair in the sun, and that does not go out too often here in the United Kingdom.
The full list of six Smart Oakley glasses options is:
- Oakley Meta Hstn Hot gray with Ruby Prizm lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with Prizm Polar Black Lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Brown Smoke with Prizm Polar Deep Water Lences
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with Amethyst Lenses transitions
- Oakley Meta Hstn Clear with gray transitions
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with clear lenses
Beyond style and objectives, a striking factor is that despite serious battery upgrades, the frames do not seem massively coarse.
Like their Ray-Ban predecessors, they are clearly thicker than normal specifications, but they do not seem too different from normal nuances.
Overall, these Oakley glasses are really impressive. I am doing a bit to try a pair, and if you have been on the fence to collect the Ray-Ban meta-lunes, these improved options could be what convinces you to finally get glasses powered by AI.
