Section 144 to stay in place through Punjab during Muharram

The Punjab government has decided to enforce article 144 in the province with a view to Muharram-Ul-Haram, as part of the efforts to maintain law and order and prevent sectarian disorders.

The prohibition will be in force from 1 to 10 of Muharram and prohibit the display of weapons, fireworks and any material likely to encourage sectarian or religious tensions in public spaces without prior authorization from the authorities, reported Express News.

Double driving will be prohibited on Muharram 9 and 10, although the elderly, women and law enforcement staff will be exempt from this restriction.

The authorities said that no new procession or change in the traditional roads of Majalis will be authorized. Public declarations or content that promotes sectarian or ethnic hatred, whether through devices or social media platforms, are also prohibited under the order.

In addition, residents are prohibited from building structures such as posts or the collection of stones, bottles or debris on roofs along the procession routes. Spectators will not be allowed to come together on the roofs or shopping strings during the processions.

In addition to the prohibition of double driving, all other restrictions will remain effective during the first ten days of Muharram.

Meanwhile, security has been increased in the provincial capital. The Dolphin Squad and the police response unit were placed on alert to ensure security during Muharram activities.

During a recent operation, Dolphin Force recovered firearms from a suspect vehicle Telt in black on Multan Road, arresting five suspects.

The recovered items included two rifles, three pistols, dozens of balls and magazines.

According to SP Dolphin Arslan Zahid, the suspects – Kashif Ali, Muhammad Rahat, Azeem Anwar, Muhammad Mansab and Basharat Ali – were given to the Chuhang police station for other legal proceedings.

Previously, the Punjab government has deployed a complete safety plan for Muharram, incorporating digital surveillance, inter -climbs and infrastructure security measures to ensure peaceful religious observances in the province.

According to the department of the house, Muharram should start on June 26 or 27, subject to observation of the moon. To prevent sectarian disorders, the government has ordered that non -Shia religious gatherings remain physically separated from Shiite events.
