Rawalpindi:
A serious security violation occurred in the Rawalpindi judicial complex when a group of enraged people launched a violent assault on a murder suspect on Saturday during police custody during peak hours.
The suspect, Hammad – who faces charges in a matter of murder in police custody – was physically attacked by the members of the complainant, although he was handcuffed.
The crowd, which would have 15 to 20 strong people, began to strike, kicks and attack the accused at the sight of the police. In an effort to protect the suspect, the police quickly moved him to courtroom No. 27 and locked the door. However, the attackers continued them, violently beating the door of the courtroom to try to penetrate.
While chaos broke out, the judge president was forced to abandon the current hearing and take refuge in his rooms. The locked door left lawyers and litigants trapped in the courtroom for an important period, while the agitation continued outside.
The attackers continued to disrupt the procedures, assaulted the police staff and tried to force in the courtroom. After crossing the police control points, they finally fled the legal complex. The incident has put naked alarming gaps in the security agreements for justice agents, court staff and detainees in the complex.
Following a written request from the investigating officer, an official case was registered in the civilian police station under relevant criminal codes. For the moment, no arrest has been made.
Subspector Qamar Sadiq, posted at the Saddar Bairooni police station and assigned to the investigation, said the accused had been brought to justice to obtain pre-trial detention. The complainant, already present in the premises, launched a premeditated attack on the suspect.
He confirmed that he had managed to secure the accused in a courtroom, but the crowd tried to make his way, attacking both the door and the officers present.
The disturbance led to a suspension of legal proceedings, while the police and attackers clashed outside the courtroom. People named in the FIR included Raja Manan, Raja Matloob, Ghufran and Raja Usman, as well as other unidentified suspects.
All the accused managed to escape after having crossed the obstacles to police security.
