Iranian ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam accused the United States on Sunday and Israel of having sabotaged peace by launching fatal strikes on Iranian territory only two days before the nuclear discussions planned with American representatives.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Amiri said that attacks on June 13 had killed Iranian commanders and were a direct attempt to derail a diplomatic meeting scheduled for June 15. “The Zionist regime and the United States do not want to resolution by diplomacy,” he said.
The ambassador qualified the Israeli government as “illegitimate” and accused him of acting as an “American military outpost” in the Middle East.
He stressed that Iran is a member of the non-proliferation treaty (TNP) and operates under strict supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), unlike Israel.
Citing two American intelligence critics, Amiri reiterated that the Iranian nuclear program was peaceful. “Our supreme chief has clearly said that we are committing to peaceful nuclear development,” he said, adding that the program exists “in the minds of our scientists” and cannot be destroyed by missiles.
He said that Iran would defend himself and have already shown that Israel was unable to intercept Iranian manufacturing missiles. “When the Zionist regime failed to defend itself, America has been brought,” said Amiri, adding that Washington hit Iran again on Sunday morning.
Amiri warned the United States that “at war will determine where America will feel pain”, while declaring that Iran is supported by Muslims around the world. He thanked the government of Pakistan, the media, academics and politicians for their solidarity and support.
Amiri also expressed his gratitude to members of the United Nations Security Council who condemned the Israeli aggression alongside Pakistan.
He rejected calls for a regime change in Iran, saying that all American presidents tried to interfere in Iranian governance by diplomacy or strength. “The Iranian people will never accept leadership imposed by Israel or the United States,” he said.
The ambassador said that the city of Isfahan, an area densely populated near the Iranian nuclear infrastructure, has undergone unpertified damage during recent strikes, while the Fordow nuclear site has remained unassigned due to its distant location.
He concluded by thanking Pakistan for his “courageous and honorable support”, affirming the continuous resistance of Iran against foreign aggression and his position against “genocidal regimes” in Gaza and beyond.
