Khairpur:
The Inspector General of the Prisons suspended 15 prison officials, notably the superintendent and assistant superintendent of Khairpur central prison, following a deadly attack against the prisoners returning from the court. An inmate was killed and two were injured during the incident.
According to prison officials, unidentified attackers opened fire on Tuesday in the adjacent complex of the prison while prisoners returned from an audience. Prison police have started the attackers, managed to capture a suspect who injured himself during the stock market.
Two other armed men escaped the premises and were released, the local police carrying out research operations.
Prisons Ig Fida Hussain Mastoo ordered the Superintendent Abdul Ghaffar Chandio to appear at the Central Police Office while suspended with the assistant superintendent, service officer, two gendarmes and seven constables.
Police have trained an investigation committee for three members led by Dig Prisons Malik Aslam to investigate the security towers.
The initial surveys suggest that the attack results from an earlier quarrel. IG Mastoo has warned that all staff have found that negligence would face strict disciplinary measures, highlighting zero tolerance for security violations.
