Amazon MGM Studios announced the director of the next James Bond film, and he is surprised and delighted a lot of moviegoers: it’s Denis Villeneuve, director of some of the best science fiction films like the two Dune movies, Blade Runner 2049, Sicario And more.
He is very happy with it, just like fans. “Some of my first cinematographic memories are linked to 007,” explains Villeneuve. “I grew up watching James Bond Films with my father, from Dr. No with Sean Connery. I am an unconditional fan of Bond. For me, it’s a sacred territory.”
Bond is safe in his hands, says Villeneuve. “I intend to honor tradition and open the way for many new missions to come. It is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.”
The reaction on R / Movies was very positive, with the only concern of cinema fans: Villeneuve is a very busy guy and making a link means a longer delay before his next project.
