Close links with us do not mean blind support for unjust policies, explains Ishaq Dar

Close links with the United States will not signify unconditional support for its policies, especially when they are unjust, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

Press information in Islamabad, the deputy Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan was aware that Iran would not remain passive after the United States bombed three of its nuclear installations.

Dar spoke in reference to the meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OCI), where the Iran-Israel War was a subject of main discussion.

He underlined the efforts of Pakistan to ensure that a special session on Iran took place, which was agreed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the OIC.

DAR also noted that Pakistan had been in constant communication with Iranian officials, including discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Iranian management.

During the briefing, Dar explained that Iran had congratulated the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan to the United Nations Security Council and their parliament.

He shared the details of an important meeting in Istanbul, which took place during a visit by the Pakistan army staff chief, Marshal Asim Munnir, who was assisted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt çavuşoğlu and other Turkish leaders to address the situation in Iran.

Dar said that after the American attack on Iran, Pakistan had been informed by Tehran that, even if Iran did not develop nuclear weapons, it could not ignore the American attack and retaliate. Iran’s response led to an attack on an American air base in Qatar.

DAR clearly said that if Pakistan appreciates its relationship with the United States, this does not mean alignment with Washington on each problem, especially with regard to unfair military actions.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful resolution and his efforts to guarantee the ceasefire.
