Islamabad: A mild earthquake struck central Pakistan on Sunday morning because the United States Geological Survey said it was a 5.3 magnitude tremor on the Richter scale.

However, the German research center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the extent of the earthquake was 5.5.

There was no immediate report of victims or damage to the shallow earthquake, which, according to the USGS, had occurred around 3:30 am (2230 GMT), with the epicenter about 60 kilometers (37 miles) in the north-north-east of Barkhan, a city in the mountainous province of Balutchistan in Pakistan.

However, the Euro-meterran seismological center reported that the epicenter was located 149 km (92.5 miles) west of the city of Multan. The GFZ said that the tremor was shallow, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

Meanwhile, tremors were also felt in Musakhel and neighboring areas after a moderate earthquake struck the region.

According to the seismic surveillance center, the earthquake had an amplitude of 5.5 and occurred at a depth of 28 kilometers. The epicenter was located about 56 kilometers northeast of the Musakhel district in Balutchistan.

There was no immediate report of damage or victims. The authorities monitor the situation.

Pakistan is located along the border between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which makes it subject to earthquakes.

The region can be difficult to reach in an emergency – in 2015, a magnification earthquake of 7.5 in Pakistan and Afghanistan killed nearly 400 people on damaged land that has embarrassed help efforts.

The country also experienced a 7.6 rude 7.6 earthquake in 2005 which killed more than 73,000 people and left around 3.5 million homeless, mainly in cashmere controlled by Pakistan.

The province of Balutchistan, the largest in Pakistan, was struck by an earthquake in 2021 which killed at least 20 people and injured more than 10 others, with landslides slowing the anticipated rescue operations in the distant mountainous district of Harnai.
