Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged the nation to renew its determination to strengthen parliamentary institutions, maintain democratic values and guarantee that the voices of the people are really reflected in the judicial process.
In a message to the International Day of Parliamentarism, he said: “The day is observed every year on June 30 to reaffirm our global commitment to strengthen democratic institutions.” “The day also celebrates the vital role of parliaments in the promotion of inclusive governance, to ensure a significant representation of women and young people and the adoption of technological innovation in legislative practices,” he said. The PM noted: “Our parliament occupies a central place in our democratic framework. Thanks to its legislative authority and at work vigilant of its permanent committees, Parliament guarantees responsibility, transparency and monitoring of the executive.”
“The constitution of Pakistan devotes the representation of women through seats reserved in the context of articles 51 and 59. Our parliamentary women have also reached management positions: currently, eight women senators and four women members of the National Assembly serve as presidents of parliamentary committees, he pointed out.
The Prime Minister said: “Parliament has also remained proactive to adopt progressive legislation, in particular to advance gender equality and social protection”.
He said: “While we are marking this important day, renew our determination to strengthen parliamentary institutions, protect democratic values and ensure that the voices of citizens are really reflected in the judicial process.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the residence of the chief of the PML-N unhappy Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and wondered after his health.
