The roof of the residential building collapses in Kharadar, Karachi

A corridor connecting two buildings near the Barri Imam Bargah in the Karachi Kharadar region collapsed on Monday, trapping at least 22 people, rescue officials said.

The roof of the corridor and a staircase built above it have sold, leaving the residents of the two buildings, including those of the three upper floors of a six-story structure, unable to leave.

The rescue teams and the police arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and launched an evacuation operation using the diving equipment with Tuba.

So far, 11 people have been saved. No victim has been reported at this stage.

The operation to extract the remaining trapped residents is underway. The building was old and in a deteriorated state, which may have contributed to collapse, said rescue officials.

Rescue efforts are continuing in coordination with emergency services.
