Rawalpindi:
The construction of the Nawaz Sharif overflight in Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road was completed and the viaduct was opened for public traffic.
Although an official inauguration has been scheduled for June 30 by the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, the ceremony was postponed.
The overview, completed at the cost of RS2.3 billion, is part of a larger infrastructure development project which includes two boxes and an underground pedestrian gateway to Mall Road.
These projects, built at a cost of more than Rs 4.38 billion, were also completed. However, they remain closed until the chief minister provides a new date of inauguration.
According to managers of the communications and work department of Punjab, once the approval has been granted, the Mall Road subpasseurs will also be opened for public use, similar to the early opening of Nawaz Sharif Flyover.
Meanwhile, the plans were finalized to build additional sub-skill on the Qasim market, the race course and the presidency of Peshawar Road. A proposal for two overflights and three passages below Kachehri Chowk is also under study, although no official calendar has been announced by the Punjab government for the start of work on these projects.
