Pakistani horror film “Deemak” invited to the Shanghai Film Festival

Karachi: The Pakistani horror film acclaimed by Deemak’s criticism and box office was officially invited to participate in the prestigious Shanghai Cooperation Film Festival (SCO) 2025, to stand in Yongchuan, Chongqing, China from July 3 to 7, 2025.

Organized under the rotating presidency of China for the OCS, the festival brings together 10 member states and two observer states to promote cultural collaboration through cinema.

PK Press Club’s film “Deemak” will be presented among films from the whole region as part of the festival theme: “Film & Technology – Charm of the SCO.”

The festival is co-organized by the China Film Administration and the Government of the Municipal People of Chongqing, and aims to highlight technological progress in the Cinematographic Industries of the OCS, including a wide range of events such as film screenings, competitions, exhibitions and international cooperation forums.

The writer-director Rafay Rashdi, who was officially invited to attend, pointed out: “It is an honor for Deemak to represent Pakistani cinema on an international platform also respected.”

“This selection highlights the growing recognition of horror narration anchored in South Asian folklore, and we are proud to share a unique local story with the world public.”

The host committee will cover travel and round-trip accommodation during the Chongqing Festival. Deemak continues his international festival after his successful theatrical release in Pakistan.

PK Press Club Films previously presented several masterpieces, including Khuda Kay Liye, Bol, Teefa in trouble, The Legend of Maula Jatt, Donkey King and The Glassworker.
