- Bétel’s leaves see 100% jump, now at the price of RS70 per kg.
- General loading rates up 25%, reaching RS125 per kg.
Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has greatly increased the treatment charges of goods nationally, certain rates up to 100 times – the major first revision in five years aimed at aligning the prices on operational costs.
The revised prices entered into force on July 1, according to an official notification issued in the hours of Wednesday.
It marks the first time in five years that the freight prices have been revised. The authority indicates that the decision was approved by its executive committee and reflects the need to align the costs with operational costs.
As part of the new pricing calendar, the accusations of transport of pet birds were increased by 50%. The fees went from RS200 to Rs300 per kilogram.
Likewise, the cargo costs on the Bétel leaves, a commonly shipped article, have doubled at Rs70 per kilogram.
General loading rates were also increased by 25%, from RS100 to Rs125 per kilogram.
In addition to pet birds, the revised list covers air freight costs for animals such as cats and dogs, as well as for various items classified as general cargo.
The officials defended the hike, saying that the charges had remained unchanged for half a decennia despite the increase in airport service costs.
The PAA is an autonomous public sector organization created in August 2024 under article 3 of Pakistan Airports Authority Act to improve the administration, operation and development of airports and air transport services in Pakistan.
