Islamabad:
Sudden floods and heavy rains killed 64 people and injured 117 in a week across the country, a government agency announced on Wednesday.
The highest toll was in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with 23 dead, including 10 children, said National Disaster Management Authority.
Fourteen of the victims were swept away by a sudden flood in the Swat valley last week, local media reported.
Sudden floods and houses collapsing from heavy rains killed 21 other people in the eastern province of Punjab, including 11 children, said authority.
In the Sindh, 15 were killed, while five people died in southwest Balutchistan.
Meanwhile, the PMD on Wednesday planned a significant intensification of the monsoon activity across the country from the evening of July 5, with generalized rains, thunderstorms and the possibility of sudden floods and urban floods in several regions.
According to the Met Office, the damp monsoon currents permanently penetrated the country and will probably strengthen during the weekend.
A West wave was also to approach the upper parts of Pakistan on July 06, further improving precipitation.
Depending on the strengths of regional forecasts, rainwind thunderstorms / thuessts with thick precipitation to very strong people are expected from July 5 to 10 in several areas, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Kohistan, Chitral and others.
GB regions like Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit and Astore can also experience similar conditions from July 6 to 10.
In Punjab and Islamabad, widespread rains and thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected from July 5 to 10 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and several other districts. The southern Punjab regions, notably Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, will receive rain between July 06-08.
About the Sindh and Balutchistan, the PMD provides that rain thunderstorms are probably in the south and northeast of Balutchistan, including Loralai, Khuzdar and Lasbella from 03-04 July and again from 06 to 06 July.
Sindh regions such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Tharparkar and Sukkur can undergo moderate precipitation from July 3 to 4, with chances of heavy falls isolated in the southeast parts.
Depending on the possible impacts and public councils, strong to very strong rains can generate sudden floods in local nulls and Murrier watercourses, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Biner, Chitral, Dir, SWAT, Shangla, Howshera Cashmere and parts of the Balutchistan on the night of July 05-08.
Heavy showers can cause urban floods in the low areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Siallekot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from 06 to 06 July. (With AFP entrance)
