Commercial corridor via the necessary rail link: Minister

Islamabad:

The Minister of Communications Abdul Aleem Khan reaffirmed the strong commitment of Pakistan to improve trade through rail, road and air roads.

Addressing the ministerial summit of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) in Tianjin, China, he expressed the lively interest of Pakistan to establish commercial corridors through China, Afghanistan and Iran, highlighting the country’s strategic role in regional connectivity and commercial activities, said that a press release published here.

He stressed that by virtue of the CPEC, Pakistan has reached major stages in road infrastructure. “Our objective is now to extend trade beyond the borders of Afghanistan and Iran with standard international freight ports in Gwadar and Karachi.”

The Minister also stressed the importance of Khunjerab in the North and the coastal gateways of Gwadar and Karachi in the Pakistan commercial expansion strategy. Stressing regional development initiatives, Abdul Aleem Khan noted that the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistanais proposed railway project would be a transformative stage for the whole region.
