The NA secretariat denies the role in the speaker’s wage hike

Islamabad:

The spokesperson for the National Assembly Secretariat said Thursday that neither the speaker’s office nor the National Assembly Secretariat had no role in increasing the speaker’s salary.

In a decision that raised the eyebrows, the government had approved more fivefold of the wages of the President of the Senate and the speaker of the National Assembly, bringing it to 1.3 million rupees per month.

According to a notification dated May 29, the president of the Senate and the salaries of the president of the NA went from RS205,000 to Rs1.3 m, in addition to 50% of the revised salary (RS650,000) as a sumptuous allowance.

Hiking, with a retrospective effect, became effective in January 2025.

Addressing the question, the spokesman said that the summary of the wage increase was prepared by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

The summary was then transmitted by the ministry and approved by the federal cabinet.
