Islamabad:
On Friday, Pakistan reacted with caution to the Russian decision recognizing the Afghan Taliban government, saying that the question was between the two sovereign states.
“We have seen the news of the Russian government recognition in Kabul,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shafqat Ali Khan, at a weekly information point.
“Russia is an important country in the region. It has legitimate security interests in this part of the world and is also friends with all the countries of the region. Pakistan enjoys very warm and cordial relations with Russia,” he added.
“The two countries maintain the positive trajectory and increase cordial relations more. Russian-Afghanistan relations are a question between two sovereign states. We have taken note of Russian recognition,” he said without offering other comments.
Contrary to Pakistan’s kept reaction, China has welcomed the Russian decision to officially recognize the Taliban government. China was the first country to send a full -time ambassador to Kabul in March of last year and accepted the envoy appointed by the Taliban to Beijing. However, unlike Russia, China has never officially announced that it had recognized the Taliban government.
Diplomatic sources have said that other countries could also follow suit, as regional countries have already decided to make decisions about Afghanistan with a consensus.
The United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan are appointing full -time ambassadors to Kabul.
However, there was no clarity if Pakistan immediately or officially recognizes the Taliban government. Pakistan had a difficult relationship with the Taliban government for not having braked terrorist attacks.
Pakistan wanted to use recognition as a lever effect with the Taliban government. However, China recently tried to mediate between Pakistan and China. Recently, China organized a trilateral meeting in Beijing, after which Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to modernize their diplomatic links.
The spokesman said the process of appointing ambassadors was underway. It is believed that in exchange for the upgrade of Pakistan, the Taliban government had agreed to respond to the security problems of Pakistan.
Development officials have said the Taliban government in recent weeks had taken action to respond to Pakistan’s security problems. However, they were of the opinion that many should be made with regard to terrorist sanctuaries.
Pakistan this week has neutralized a major infiltration offer of Afghanistan terrorists. Up to 30 intruders were killed in two operations in the district of Hassen Kheil, in northern Waziristan. Inter-service public relations (ISPR), in a statement, urged the Afghan Taliban government to keep its promise not to allow its soil to be used by terrorist groups.
