Suspects reserved for the poaching of rare barking deer in Islamabad

A case was registered at the Kohsar police station following the illegal murder of an barking deer in the hills of Margalla, officials announced on Saturday.

The suspects named in the FIR are Bashir Abbasi and Zain Abbasi, residents of the village of Gokina, which is located in the region of Margalla Hills. The case was filed on the complaint of Ayesha Shehzad, assistant director of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board.

According to the complaint, the accused illegally killed a rare species of deer known as the barking deer. The authorities have recovered the remains of the animal, including their skin and skull, as proof.

The case was recorded under articles A-4/12 and A-16 at the Kohsar police station. These sections have penalties which may include a fine of up to 10 million rupees, a prison sentence of up to a year, or both. In addition, article 379 has been invoked, which relates to the flight and bears a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment.

The incident had previously drawn the attention of the Federal Minister for Climate Change, Musadik Malik, who took note and ordered an immediate investigation into the issue.

The minister sentenced the murder, which was revealed after a video showing the massacre circulated on social networks. He stressed that hunting and death of fauna in protected areas constitute a serious violation of environmental laws and will not be tolerated.

Musadik Malik ordered the relevant authorities to conduct an in -depth investigation and submit a report as soon as possible.

He also underlined the government’s commitment to protect fauna and ensure strict application of conservation laws across the country.
