To guarantee the inclusion of women in municipal services and provide a dedicated platform for the registration and resolution of their complaints, the “women’s facilitation offices” were created in 44 municipal institutions in Punjab, including Vehari.
The initiative was launched under the directive of the Department of Local Government and Community Development of Punjab, while training and implementation responsibilities have been assigned to a foundation.
These offices were created in 12 municipal companies and 32 municipal committees, where they are now fully operational. The objective is to improve women’s access to essential municipal services such as drinking water, sanitation, cleanliness, lighting, birth and death registration, marriage and divorce documentation, public events, sports, parks, approvals of the construction plan, lamps, drainage, inscriptions, encroachments and Stray animals.
These complaints will be treated as a priority. This initiative was taken in the light of the departmental directives published in December 2024.
The initiative is an extension of the successful pilot project “Bolo Aur Barho” previously implemented by Sangat Development Foundation in Sheikhupura, Mandi Bahauddin, Gojra and Kabirwala. Based on its success, the project has now been extended to the province’s scale.
The daily performance updates of these offices are shared with the public via social media.
Under the official notification, the open courts of women were also made compulsory at the district headquarters. For surveillance purposes, Chaudhry Farmaish Ali, director (data collection) to the board of directors of the local government of Punjab, was appointed for the focal person.
During the current month, women’s facilitation offices will be inaugurated in municipal companies and vehicle committees, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Bahawpur, Murree, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Bahawkar, Bahawkin, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Bahawkar, Bahawkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Bahawkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Bahawkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawnagar, Bahawkar, Bahawkin, Dera Gara Chakwal, Chiniot, Hafizabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Kasur, Khanewal, Khushab, Kabirwala, Kot Addu, Khewra, Gojra, Layyah, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Muzaffarg Sahib, Narowal Khan, Rajanpur, Tala Gang, Taunsa, Attock, Wazirabad, Shalimar (Lahore).
