The floods devastated the Dadhocha villages

Rawalpindi:

The torrential rains have triggered serious floods near the Dadhocha dam under construction, located about 25 kilometers from Rawalpindi, causing general destruction in several villages.

The rising waters overwhelmed the villages of Bharwala, Mohra Faizullah and Khanpur, where several feet of water entered houses, destroying affairs worth millions of rupees.

The situation prompted hundreds of residents to protest by blocking the highly frequented road to Syedan Road, near the Sardar market, bringing traffic to complete stop.

District administration officials quickly arrived, because the demonstrators demanded that their colonies be declared villagers and that they benefit from compensation for market value as well as alternative land for relocation.

A court also took note of the situation, issuing a suspension order and demanding a report from the District Administration. In response to the floods, the deputy commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema deployed relief teams 1122 in the affected areas to help residents and prevent other damage.

According to him, the authorities closely monitor the situation and a small controlled violation was made to release water gradually over 24 hours, reducing the immediate threat of a larger flood.

He assured the public that no human, animal or material loss would be authorized.

The Dadhocha dam, considered a crucial project to combat the growing crisis of Rawalpindi, has experienced years of delays.

Although initially proposed in 2001, construction started in 2012 due to funding constraints and bureaucratic obstacles.
