The Federal Board of Return (FBR) launched the very first customs clearance and risk management system based on artificial intelligence in Pakistan (RMS), Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said at a meeting to examine the FBR reforms.

As part of the new system, AI and Bots will assess the nature and cost of imported and exported goods. Officials have said that the system will use automatic learning to automate and refine customs operations over time, reducing delays and human intervention.

Initial tests have shown an improvement of 92% of system performance. The determination of tax through declarations of goods (GD) increased by 83%, while the releases of the green canal have more than doubled.

The government expects the RMS to increase transparency, stimulates efficiency and reduces pressure on customs authorities. AI tools are designed to provide faster and more precise estimates, saving time for authorities and traders.

Prime Minister Sharif described the “absolute priority” FBR reforms and said that automation of the tax system would help guarantee equity and convenience for taxpayers.

“By automating the tax system, we make it more transparent and more efficient,” said the Prime Minister adding that the technology -based modern system will result in business and will ensure convenience to taxpayers.

The Prime Minister also examined new tax collection tools based on video analysis targeting the manufacturing sector.

These technologies should improve income collection without direct human involvement and have proven to be 98% effective during pilot tests.

Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb (Finance), Attaullah Tarar (information), the president of the FBR and other senior officials attended the meeting.
