Imran’s sons will join the protest: Aleema

Rawalpindi / Lahore:

The family of the founder of the PTI, Imran Khan, including his sons Suleman Khan and Kasim Khan, will be part of the protest movement called by him, said his sister Aleema Khan on Tuesday.

Aleema spoke to the media after her two sisters Uzma and Noreen Khan and the party lawyers met the founder of the PTI in Adiala Prison. Aleema, however, denied the authorization of the meeting. She told journalists that Imran Khan would lead himself the protest movement from inside the prison.

“Imran Khan said he would lead the protest movement. He is free in prison, but we are prisoners despite being outside,” she said. “Our family will be fully involved in the protest movement. Suleman and Kasim said that after [visiting] America, they will join the movement, “she added.

“Imran Khan said that those who could not carry the weight of the movement should leave now,” she continued, adding that Imran wanted the movement to culminate on August 5, while he would finish two years of incarceration.

Prison letter

The senior incarcerated leaders of PTI wrote another joint letter, exploding the government to “destroy” key democratic institutions, in particular the media, the judiciary and the parliament.

The letter accuses current leaders of betraying the very spirit of the Charter of Democracy, an agreement formerly signed by the leaders of the two main political parties, Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto.

The letter, by leaders currently incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat prison, was written jointly by former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmood Rasheed, Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

“The Charter of Democracy was supposed to ensure constitutional supremacy and judicial independence,” wrote the leaders of the PTI, “but it was sabotaged by the very parties who initiated it, everything for personal political gains.”

The letter maintains that the path of the exit of Pakistan of its aggravating crises lies in the restoration of the rule of law and the maintenance of the supremacy of the Constitution.

They also alleged that the government had seriously undermined democratic principles thanks to legislative surpassing and electoral manipulation. “The media were stifled by the ordinance of the PECA, the judiciary targeted by the 26th constitutional amendment, and the Parliament was meaningless via form 47,” said the letter, adding that the inhabitants of Pakistan deserve a complete respect for their democratic rights.

The last letter marks the second communication of this type in one week of the senior prisoners imprisoned from PTI, who had previously urged the party to engage in dialogue with the government led by PML-N.
