The Nepra reduces the power rate of RS4.03 for Karachi consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has reduced energy prices as part of the monthly fuel cost adjustment, providing relief to Karachi electric users and consumers of the rest of the country served by distribution companies managed by the government (Discos).

According to a notification published on Wednesday, the electricity rate for electric consumers K has been reduced by RS4.03 per unit, while a reduction in RS0.50 per unit has been approved for consumers in other parts of the country. Distinct notifications specify that relief will be reflected in electricity bills for July 2025.

NEPRA said that the reduction in K-electrical applies to the monthly adjustment for April 2025, while the decrease in disco consumers is based on the adjustment of May 2025.

K-Electric had requested a reduction in RS4.69 per unit for April, while the Central Electricity Purchase Agency (CPPA) requested an increase in RS0.10 per unit per unit for May in the name of discos. However, the regulator approved a lower adjustment, granting repair in the place.

This announcement follows the previous decision of NEPRA last week to reduce the national basic power rate of RS1.15 per unit. The proposal was sent to the federal government for final approval and implementation and aims to relieve national consumers faced with increasing costs of public services.

Depending on the revised tariff structure, the maximum rate for national consumers using 100 to 500 units per month will now be at 47.69 rupees per unit. Meanwhile, Lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month will continue to be billed RS3.95 per unit. For those who consume between 51 and 100 units, the price was set at RS7,74 per unit.

National consumers protected using 1 to 100 units will be invoiced RS10.54 per unit, while those which use between 101 and 200 units will pay RS13.01 per unit. For unprotected consumers, the rate has been set at RS22.44 per unit for use between 1 and 100 units, RS28.91 per 101 to 200 units and RS33.10 for 201 to 300 units.

Those who consume between 301 and 400 units will be invoiced RS37.99 per unit, while consumption between 401 and 500 units will cost 40.20 rupees per unit. The rate increases to RS41.62 for use between 501 and 600 units, RS42.76 for 601 to 700 units, and reaches the maximum of RS47.69 per unit for consumers using more than 700 units per month.
