The Governor’s Press Bureau of California Gavin Newsom published on Wednesday an X Post on the recent trial by the United States Ministry of Justice against California Department of Education (CDE) and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for alleged violations of the title IX.
In the post, the press office made sure to clarify that Newsom is not appointed in the trial.
“Since many people here have become legal experts in recent hours, would stress that the governor is not appointed as a party in this trial,” said the post.

The position did not address the morality to authorize biological men in girls sports. However, the position defended the current treatment of the situation by the State, arguing in which the administration of President Donald Trump tried to apply title IX in practice.
“The California Department of Education (CDE) and CIF are both independent * of the administrator of Newsom, and they follow the law of the existing state – a law which was adopted in 2013, signed by Governor Jerry Brown, and in accordance with 21 other states. Opinions, “the message was read.
“No court has adopted the interpretation of the title IX which is advanced by the administrator Trump, and neither the governor, nor them, do not take a magic wand and do not abandon him – unlike Donald Trump, California follows the law, not personal opinions.”
The position was criticized on X.
Tuesday, Newsom was asked about his reflections on transgender athletes who participate in the sports of girls and women.
“I had trouble with the problem of equity with regard to sport,” he said during an event in South Carolina. “And we tried to understand this a few years ago, and we failed, and we had trouble with this recently.
“And my position is that I do not think it’s fair, but I also think that it is degrading to speak to people and to lower the trans community. And I don’t like the way the right wing talks about the trans community. These people just want to survive.”

Newsom said in a press release that the CDE and the CIF followed the laws adopted in 2013.
The Doj trial requests an injunction on state policy allowing men to compete with women in sport.
California’s policies “eviscerate equal sporting possibilities for girls … They also require that girls share intimate spaces, such as changing rooms, with boys, causing a hostile educational environment that refuses the educational opportunities of girls,” said the trial.
“The results of these illegal policies are struck: the girls are displaced by the catwalks, have denied prices and miss critical visibility for scholarships and the recognition of colleges.”
The current state policy allows athletes to participate in sports “in accordance with” their gender identity. State representatives argued that this does not violate the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment.
The CIF told PK Press Club Digital that he does not comment on legal issues.
The CDE did not comment on the current disputes.

The American education department recently found California in violation of the title IX. However, the CDE and the CIF both refused to sign the proposed resolution agreement offered by the ministry at the end of last month. The CDE and the CIF were given until July 7 to meet the demand. They have refused, and now a legal battle will follow.
It will be the second legal battle that the DoJ is fighting over on the issue, after launching a similar against Maine in April.
